Stargate: AtlantisLife Lessons Learned From Aliens by eleveninches, John/Rodney, Teyla/?This fic is an uttlerly hilarious take on the tried and true "an accident with alien technology reveals John and Rodney's true feelings". Quote: "What is going on?" the Sheppard holding the object asked. Only it was Teyla's voice, which was creepy and wrong, coming out of Sheppard's body like that. Sheppard -- Teyla -- climbed to his -- her -- feet. "Why are you all looking at me like that?"The real Sheppard said, "This is weird.""Yeah," said Ronon, "I didn't know giant boxes of pancake mix could talk."
Stargate: AtlantisThis Tardiest Explorer by mirabile_dictu, Teyla/Rodney, John/Rodney, various others impliedWhile the feeling of loss is tangible in this fic, the feeling of love is even more powerful, and is, sometimes, frankly overwhelming (but wonderful). I wasn't sure how I was going to feel about the Teyla/Rodney here but it just works so perfectly, I couldn't help but love it.Quote: Then John kissed him, and Rodney forgot all that: all they'd left behind, losing Earth, losing Atlantis, watching it sink beneath the ocean while he wept inside a jumper, John's jumper hovering nearby; he forgot their life of permanent exile. Because now, exile had become home. Here Radek and Elizabeth had formed a family, and here Ronon and Teyla had made beautiful children, and here were even some of the Athosians, come with them to this place, making yet another home. And here was John beneath him, loving him, scrabbling at his clothes, getting in Rodney's way.
Stargate: AtlantisTies by yin_again, Teyla/Ronon, Teyla/OMC, John/RodneyA great, heartwarming group fic. It also focuses on an important women's health issue, so please go read it!Quote: No one was particularly surprised when Teyla started dating. Several people were surprised that the person she was dating wasn’t Ronon.
Stargate: AtlantisBroadcast Signal by seperis, John/Rodney, various The premise is basically this: John goes into a mysterious fog. The mysterious fog does something to John, and now everyone wants to jump his bones.Sound like the beginning of bad!fic? Maybe. Is it? Hell, no. It starts out as amusing and transitions into extremely hot--sexual heat is practically leaping off the screen reading this.Quote: There are things you don't really expect to happen on a given day. Coffee, sure, lab explosion, right, Sheppard and marines coming to see what the explosion was, of course. Sheppard suddenly becoming the Pegasus galaxy's answer to an irresistible aphrodisiac? Not so much. It's not that Rodney blames himself--exactly--but he does wonder if perhaps making Sheppard wade into the foggy residue to rescue his laptop was maybe a bit of a mistake.
Stargate: AtlantisA Slightly Different Quality of Light by Rageprufrock, John/RodneyRodney POV, but in some ways it's an even more interesting look into John's character. John's enitre memory gets downloaded onto an ancient data storage device, and Rodney must sift through them to restore John's memory. This piece is very poetic and beautiful, with wonderfully sensual description. Just reading it is a sensory experience.Quote: One of John's later memories, lost in the indistinct nebula that is his years as a toddler, is of his father's five o'clock shadow, warm and scratchy on John's forehead, the way lips pressed to his temple. Rodney just watches the whole thing, the way that Ancient code translates into shoddy video and sometimes sound and feels so amazingly loved that Rodney plays the memory over and over again--and when he finally forces himself to stop he restores it to the sphere with such carefulness that his hands shake as he presses the keys.
FireflySubstitutions by laesmeralda, Simon/Inara friendship, Simon/Mal pre-slash Absolutely beautiful exploration of a possible friendship between Simon and Inara. My heart caught in my throat reading this. It's wonderfully intimate and deeply emotional.Quote: Before I met Inara, I’d never pondered our lack of mothering. Mal calls her whore to keep her at distance from his own weakness, but she is truly a Madonna and everything else that a real woman can be. He should worship her in all her aspects. I sadly, selfishly, count myself lucky that he doesn’t. I try to make it up to her.
FireflyBabysitter by Dex, pre-ish Mal/River Mal and River both have things to learn from each other. Wonderful River characterization, very sweet little story. Also featuring snarky!Inara, which is always of the good.Quote: Malcolm guided River's hand to the bulkhead, letting her grasp the buttress, clutching it with one hand as she grasped him with the other."Polycarbonite alloy. Over three hundred thousand moving parts. A fusion heart. Why is it so alive, captain?" River sobbed."Because people care for her, River. Just like people care for you.""Jayne doesn't.""I said people. Shush now."
Harry PotterThe Commune Love Story by skoosiepants, AU, Hermione/Blaise, Oliver/Percy, Harry/Ron, Harry/Ron/Draco, unrequited Harry/Oliver, Ginny/Draco, Ernie/Millicent Another wonderful fic by skoosiepants. This one's less humorous, but there's a great interplay of the relationships of the people who live in the house. I love, too, the fact that you're just sort of thrown into this alternate universe but you're never all that confused. The characters are all well developed and very real feeling.Quote: Blaise was dark and quiet and never ate enough, although he turned out to be an excellent cook. He came from Millicent as well, but Hermione had long ago made the conclusion that she wasn't very likeable by herself, and that if Millie's friends eventually became her friends, well... that was all right. He'd actually been in three of Hermione's classes first term, smiled too much and sat next to her through Wednesday morning maths, but they hadn't been introduced properly until a month into her third term, when she woke up to find him fiddling with a piece of toast at her kitchen counter, frowning into a mug."This is rubbish," he'd said, pouring black liquid down the drain and turning to her with one of his wide, too happy smiles. "Coffee round the corner?"Hermione'd blinked at him and nodded, and hoped he hadn't slept with Millie.
Stargate: AtlantisA Beautiful Lifetime Event by shalott, John/Rodney, John/OFC This fic is, without a doubt, one of my very favorites. Re-reading it for this rec was a pleasure. This was the first fic I ever read in the SGA fandom--before I even really knew what SGA was. I'm very glad I decided to read it though--the slow build of the relationship, John and Rodney's sometimes painful obliviousness to where this is all heading...masterful. Just read it, please.Quote: "Here," Rodney interrupted, coming up to them; he was carrying Hyp, who was clutching a giant pink box with a mulish expression. He shoved her into John's arms. "I'm terrible at being the bad mom, you explain to her why she can't have a Barbie Porsche. I tried feminism, I tried anti-globalization, I tried to distract her with hardware, and now I am going to go hide in the section with the giant flat-panel HDTVs before I can cave, bye.""Just for this, I'm doing one-fifty all the way back to Dallas!"
...but there's a new rec! I figure it will be easier if I do these one-at-a-time. I'll be more inclined to do them after I read a really good fic, that way, as opposed to waiting to accumulate. And boy, have I accumulated. Whew.Harry PotterEverybody Here Would Know by skoosiepants, Ron/Draco, implied Ernie/Millicent I actually read this one a while ago, and just recently stumbled back upon it. skoosiepants has a real gift for humor, and it shows. Basically it's Ron, Draco, Ernie stranded on a deserted island as the result of a Muggles studies assignment gone pear-shaped. And of course, it is all Seamus' fault.Quote: Draco rubbed a hand over his forehead. “I don’t think I want to know how you really dream about me,” he said, voice pained.Squinting up at the blond again, Ron said, “Well, for one you aren’t nearly so...white.”“And I suppose I’m also nice and decent and hold your hand?” Draco cracked, crouching down and grasping Ron by the shoulders. He shook him once, firmly, then growled, “This isn’t a fucking dream, you half-wit. You’ve landed us on a deserted isle. With a Hufflepuff.”
